CD36, a receptor possessing multiple functions, is expressed on the external surfaces of many cell types. Among healthy individuals, CD36 may be found in absence on platelets and monocytes (type I), or solely on platelets (type II). Yet, the detailed molecular mechanisms by which CD36 deficiency operates are still shrouded in mystery. This research project sought to identify individuals presenting with CD36 deficiency and to investigate the related molecular mechanisms. Kunming Blood Center procured blood samples from platelet donors. The isolated platelets and monocytes were analyzed for CD36 expression by employing the flow cytometry technique. Using PCR analysis, researchers examined DNA from whole blood samples and mRNA isolated from monocytes and platelets collected from individuals affected by CD36 deficiency.
